Belize offers year-round fishing, but knowing what species to target in each season will dramatically improve your success. Here's your complete seasonal fishing guide.
January - March: Prime Permit Season
The cooler months bring permit closer to shore. The flats around Turneffe Atoll and Ambergris Caye are teeming with these prized gamefish.
Also Available: Bonefish, snapper, grouper, barracuda
April - June: Tarpon Run
This is THE time for tarpon in Belize. Migratory tarpon flood the channels and flats, with fish averaging 60-120 pounds. The area around San Pedro and the northern cayes is particularly productive.
Also Available: Permit, bonefish, mahi-mahi (offshore), wahoo
July - September: Offshore Season
Summer brings the best offshore fishing conditions. Sailfish, marlin, and large mahi-mahi are all within reach. Calm seas make for comfortable boat rides to the deep water.
Also Available: Tarpon (late season), bonefish, jacks, barracuda
October - December: The Grand Slam Season
Fall is arguably the best time for an overall fishing experience. Conditions are perfect for pursuing a grand slam — bonefish, permit, and tarpon in a single day. The weather is pleasant and the fish are cooperative.
Also Available: Snook (especially around river mouths), snapper, grouper, wahoo
